It is often useful to know the terminology that Openreach use to describe the parts of the wiring between the exchange the the premises.
 
This diagram shows some of this, including:
*E-Side (Cable from Exchange to the Cabinet)
*D-Dide (CAble from the Cabinet to the Distribution point, which may be in the building or ona pole in some cases)
