===Ports===

The default SIP port seems to be UDP port 2048, and the default RTP port range is very wide (49152 - 65534). For firewalling reasons you might wish to change the SIP port to 5060, and the RTP port range to be narrower. Both are set on the same page - ''Settings'', ''Advanced'', ''SIP/RTP'':

''SIP:'', ''Network identity (port)'' set to 5060.

''RTP/RTCP:'', ''Dynamic RTP port start:'' set to e.g. 5000, ''Dynamic RTP port stop:'' set to e.g. 5098.

Ports

The default SIP port seems to be UDP port 2048, and the default RTP port range is very wide (49152 - 65534). For firewalling reasons you might wish to change the SIP port to 5060, and the RTP port range to be narrower. Both are set on the same page - Settings, Advanced, SIP/RTP:

SIP:, Network identity (port) set to 5060.

RTP/RTCP:, Dynamic RTP port start: set to e.g. 5000, Dynamic RTP port stop: set to e.g. 5098.

Other (possibly) useful settings

  • Turn off Call Waiting, the default is On. - Advanced - Audio - Call Waiting Indication
  • Turn off U.S. date format - In Preferences
  • Turn off Advertisement - In Preferences

Notes

  • Snom did make available IPv6 firmware, but this was buggy and no longer available, and Snom say that IPv6 will not be supported on the 3xx range.
  • Directory Name not being shown? A couple of times we've noticed that the Directory does not display the Name when that number calls in. Try turning off 'prioritise pbx number lookup' - This setting is found on the Snom web pages under Advanced - Behaviour. This setting means the phone will use the Name in the Directory rather than the Name given in the SIP messages when the call is sent to the phone.
  • We have a page about SNOM Firmware Updates

Firewall & Security

Factory Reset SNOM 3xx

Since firmware version 8.7.3.7 on the snom 3xx series it is possible to reset the phone using the key pad by pressing the following key sequence:

* Volume Up * Volume Down #

This is useful if you have lost the admin password or have lost the PIN etc., and this is much easier than the alternative way using TFTP to reset the phone.

Problems setting the time

Setting the time can be a bit tricky. The Snom will overwrite the NTP server with any 'time' option set in DHCP. For example, the FireBrick [by default] will set its own IP as the 'time' over DHCP. This will result in a situation where rebooting the Snom will cause it to overwrite the NTP server with the IP of the FireBrick!

You will need to specify this value manually in the FireBrick. Interestingly, it ignores the 'ntp' option.

If your DHCP server does not have the time option set, then you should have no problems setting the time manually in the Snoms web interface. You will also need to ensure that the DNS servers are set correctly if you are specifying a hostname for NTP.
