Here are some notes from our experience of the BT supplied HomeHub router.
A BT HomeHub has a built in VoIP Client that works as a DECT base station. This has been known to work with the AA VoIP Service.
Disable upnp
With upnp enabled, outbound calls worked, but not inbound. With upnp enabled, incoming failed and the log said:
FIREWALL icmp check (1 of 2): Protocol: ICMP Src ip: 81.187.30.111 Dst ip: 192.168.1.254 Type: Destination Unreachable Code: Port Unreacheable
This was a setup, where the HomeHub was inside the network being NATed by another ADSL router. In this case, the HomeHub was only acting as a wifi access point and phone.
This may be found in the web interface under:
Configuration --> Application sharing --> UPnP
Homehub 5, disable SIP ALG
NAT can always be a problem with VoIP. SIP ALGs can get in the way by mangling the SIP packets. If you have problems, try disabling it. (or even enabling it if it is already disabled!)
- Open a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.) and type 192.168.1.254 or businesshub.home in the address bar. You'll see the BT Business Hub home page.
- Click on ‘Advanced Settings’
- Enter your admin password (unless this has been changed, the default admin password can be found on the bottom of the Business Hub 5 or on the plastic pull out on its back).
- Click ‘Continue to Advanced Settings’
- Click ‘Firewall’ then ‘Configuration’ and scroll down to ‘Application Layer Gateway’
- Click Yes next to ‘Disable SIP ALG’ and click ‘Apply’
Firewall & Security
- You will also want to set up firewall rules, as per the VoIP Firewall page.
- Also see the VoIP Security page for information about securing your VoIP service.
